Ptarmigan Restaurant Expansion

, August 28, 2025

Tower Engineering provided mechanical, electrical, and structural engineering services for the expansion of Ptarmigan Restaurant in Churchill, Manitoba. The project included a 1,160 sf addition transforming a former support kitchen into a modern, upscale dining space designed to serve both visitors and locals. The team’s scope included integration with existing infrastructure, design of new mechanical and electrical systems suitable for a northern commercial kitchen and dining environment, and structural design of foundations and framing for the addition. Design considerations addressed durability, energy efficiency, and constructability in Churchill’s challenging subarctic climate, supporting a high-performing building envelope and flexible, open-concept interior.

A highlight of our work was supporting the design and installation review of an innovative geothermal heat pump system serving one of the retail strips. While modest in scale, the system represented a forward-looking approach to energy efficiency, reducing heating and cooling loads and offering long-term operational savings for tenants. Our.
