Electrical Engineer P.Eng/OIC
Description

We are currently looking for an electrical engineer who holds an OIQ designation to join us at any one of our locations (Kelowna, Calgary, Winnipeg)

If you already have your P.Eng. designation in Canada, you can apply to the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec (OIQ) for registration. However, you must be fluent in French and able to demonstrate that you meet all Quebec-specific requirements prior to the start date of employment. We also require at minimum 5 years experience in the fields of commercial, institutional, industrial, multi-family, and commercial projects.

The person joining our team, should be able to contribute to Tower’s growth and help us maintain our position in the market as a client-focused, multi-disciplinary consulting firm.

Responsibilities

For maximum success in this role, candidates should have between 5 to 10 years of experience in commercial and institutional electrical design. We are seeking someone who takes pride in their work, and who will go the distance to ensure both accuracy and on-time delivery. Key responsibilities include the following:
· Work closely with other senior designers, engineers, and drafting staff on projects that include lighting, power, emergency system, fire alarm design, and single line diagram development in accordance with Canadian Electrical Code;
· Develop electrical drawings and schedules with drawings sets including preliminary, schematic, general arrangement, and detail design tender, and construction drawings for a wide range of clients.
· Perform calculations and selects necessary electrical, lighting, and life safety equipment for each project
· Ensure compliance to local Codes and Standards and communicate findings to team members
· Set and Review project deliverables including reports, calculations, drawings and specifications
· Actively participate and all contract administration activities for the projects
· Visit project sites to conduct surveys of existing electrical systems;
· Establish and maintain relationships with appropriate client stakeholders, participating in design team meetings and
providing day-to-day contact on project status and changes. Communicate project specifications to ensure smooth delivery
· Maintain familiarity with current techniques, industry developments, etc.
· Monitor and assign resources appropriately to streamline project efficiency and maximize deliverable outputs.
· Mentor Junior design team.
· Conduct Site visits during construction to confirm installation is consistent with drawings and specifications

Qualifications

Diploma in Electrical Engineering from a recognized university.
· Registration as P. Eng. with APEGA (or eligibility to register)
· Experience working in design of buildings: commercial, industrial, multi-family residential, hospitality, healthcare,
institutional, etc.
· Good technical, organizational, coordination, written and verbal communication skills.
· A notable high level of interpersonal skills, would be considered an asset;
· Proficiency at reading and interpreting technical specifications, design drawings, and details.
· Demonstrates ability and interest to work as part of a team, coaching and educating project teams to strengthen team
members’ capabilities and skill sets;
· Desire to develop personal and professional skills and expand career;
· Demonstrates experience with software such as MS Office (Word, Excel, etc.), AutoCad, Revit.
· Ability to travel for short durations may be required. and a valid driver’s license is an asset.
· Strong understanding of the provincial building code, electrical code, CSA, ULC, IEEE, IES, and NFPA standards
· Experience working with architects, developers, other consultants and contractors
· Ability to work in complex environment dealing with multiple projects at once
· Excellent leadership abilities and interpersonal skills
· Strong problem solver and sound decision maker
· Business development experience is an asset
